Mitte 1962 gründeten Allan Clarke und Graham Nash die Two Teens, um ihren Schulkameraden mit Rock & Roll-Klassikern zu imponieren. Clarke und Nash formierten die Hollies Anfang 1963. Mit dabei sind Tony Hicks, Eric Haydock und Bobby Elliott. Obwohl die Musiker aus Manshester bis 1975 in ihrem Heimatland "nur" zwei mal die Chart-Spitze erreichten, verzeichneten sie doch sage und schreibe 27 hohe Notierungen (19 mal Top 10) und sorgten mit ihrem unverwechselbaren Gesangsharmonien und perfekten Arrangemants für sommerliche Pop-Sounds in der swingenden Musikdekade.
I left because the group suddenly told me that they weren't happy with me pursuing a solo career while I was with them. I had planned for some time to do the two together and it was quite a suprise when they said: "Look, Allan, if you want to do it, you'll have to leave". And because I'm a proud man. I didn't argue. "O.K. I'll go and do it on my own".
